Programmes

PhotoCGG programmes have evolved over the years to adapt to the changing needs of Sierra Leone, having been through a decade-long civil war and now amidst a delicate and critical development stage.  The organization continues to focus on increasing citizen’s participation in governance through advocacy, capacity building and civic education in order to build a more informed civil populace and democratic state.

The organisation focuses on three key programme areas:

Democracy Building

Successful implementation of democracy is built on inclusion and political participation of society members. People must have the abilities and possibilities to raise their voices and take part in the formation of public opinion. A well-informed and well-educated society is needed to create and sustain democratic structures and values.
CGG contributes to democracy building by performing a number of function including awareness raising and civic education on democratic participation. Further more, CGG works year-round with the government and marginalized people for capacity building and education for increasing the effectiveness of government.

Strengthening the civil society is an additional step to more democratic environment. CGG takes on the prominent role as coordination body for the various civil society organizations in the region and promotes coalition building and the sharing of information within the network. Justice Peace & Security

The enormous importance of justice, security and human rights for the society in Sierra Leone which has gone through long times of conflict and war is indisputable. The highly interlinked concepts build the base for sustainable human and state development.
Hence, many of the projects CGG implements focuses directly or indirectly on questions of justice, security and human rights. Marginalized people in Sierra Leone often become victims of justice, human rights abuses or cultural issues. Empowering these people is one of CGG’s most important responsibilities. The organization works with the government and other organizations to change policies and legislation to benefit all citizens in the future.
CGG chairs or participates in several active committees designed to implement or advocate for positive change. Further the organisation focuses on human rights education, addressing public complaints of domestic violence and child maintenance, girl child education, as well as effectiveness of the media and actively monitors and evaluates related issues and produces press releases and reports for public consumption.
In order to improve the security situation for people in the country, CGG works further with stakeholders including the military, police, the government and other NGOs on issues related to conflict management, small arms, cross border relations and peace and reconciliation. The organization is also involved with research, monitoring and evaluation of post-war policies and reconciliation including examining transitional justice and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Recommendations.Read more...
